Just what is a House Concert?

Quite simply, it is a concert that takes place in someone’s home. That’s right folks…Jeff performing in your living room, den, back yard, front yard, clubhouse, private room in a restaurant, and…well, you get the idea. This is not a unique type of thing. In fact, house concerts have been around for quite a while. All over the country there are many house concert series regularly hosted by people who love acoustic music. Is it a House Party?

No, it is not really a house party even though house parties and house concerts share many commonalities. The focus on a House Concert is the music aspect, not the party. House Concerts provide a relaxed and fun atmosphere for listening to Jeffs stories and original music. Time is set aside for socializing during the break and after the performance.

Do I need to bring anything?

House Concerts are a community-neighborhood-social-event, so folks welcome baked goodies, potluck, snacks, or beverages to share, depending on the host’s plan. Depending on the setting, grabbing a lawn chair might be a good idea.

Why do you charge money?

This is how the majority, including Jeff, of House Concert Artist’s earn our living, through our talent. As you may or may not be able to imagine, there are many expenses to be covered as well to bring live music into an intimate setting. All donations collected at the door go directly to the performers.

Can I just show up, or do I need a reservation?

Reservations are important to help ensure the host can fill the house, but you can certainly just show up. Hosts generally ask that folks email or phone ahead of time to let them know if you are attending. Creating a Facebook Event is another way to get word out regarding a House Concert, and to take reservations. Folks who show up unexpected may not have a seat, however, the host will normally do as much as they can to make sure you do, and that you have a great time. We require a minimum number of attendees to ensure a profit can be pre-planned. Being a full-time musician, this is how I earn my living and feed my family. So it is important that my expenses are covered and that some profit can be made.

What if I need to cancel my reservation?

Life happens and plans can change. However, if you do reserve a seat ahead of time and need to cancel, please let the host know at least 48 hours ahead of time, out of respect for the artists who plan their tours around these performances. It’s important to fill the house to maintain the profitability for the event. When you don’t show up, we lose money because your seat is empty. There is a possibility of a waiting list of people who would like to attend, but were not able to get in because of capacity of the home. Your letting the host know, will allow someone else to have your seat.

Will you sell their CDs?

Jeff will have CDs and other merchandise available for sale after the show, and will definitely hang around as long as requested to meet the audience and sign autographs.

General Information

Courtesy is the golden rule here. Please be respectful of performances by silencing your cell phone and ceasing conversation during the show, unless you are engaging the artist with a request or a question. If you arrive late, please be quiet as you approach the performance area.

TICKET AND FEE INFORMATION

The objective is to keep the fee for performances as low as possibly can be for our friends and fans. With this in mind, please understand that performing and CD sales are the sole means of the artist income. Taking that into consideration and the expenses involved in touring, it is important to make a living so that shows can continue to be brought directly to your home. Any ticket sales achieved over the minimums are REALLY helpful. Hosts are encouraged to promote CD sales and a tip jar for Band Expenses. When on the road this can help out more than you could possibly realize.

All payments due must be paid on the day of performance, accepting cash and credit cards.

Admission is $20.00 in advance or at the door. For weekday evening shows a 20 person minimum confirmed attendance is required. For weekend afternoon/evening shows (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) 30 person minimum confirmed attendance is required.
