COSMIC CHESTNUT MARE

Listen to ‘Cosmic Chestnut Mare’

Lyrics by Jeff Pike and Bush Peebles.
Music by Jeff Pike

I was born in a shack. Daddy left. He never came back.
Mama raised me on her own. It’s no surprise I’m a rolling stone.
I’m a loner to myself. Drink and smoke and I don’t mind my health.
Friday nights not much to do.
Yes so I get high just thinking of you.

But if I had a cosmic chestnut mare I would ride away without a care.
I’d ride to Venus, ride to Mars. Get a suntan from all the stars.
I’d disappear without a trace, and I would hit every bar in outer space.

And I listen to Koney sing the blues. Yes he knows about these holes in my shoes.
I feel ragged at the seams. Can’t seem to find my lost and misplaced dreams.
Work all day to earn my pay. Stay out late until the break of day.
Had a woman. Now she’s gone. And that’s ok, I’ll saddle up alone.

CHORUS

And now and then when life is great I don’t even think that I would hesitate
To mount that bronc and ride away into the sunlight of a better day

CHORUS

And if I had a cosmic chestnut mare I would ride away without a care.
Can’t think of one place I would stay. I would gallop all around the milky way.
I’d disappear without a trace, and I would hit every bar in outer space.
